Mylar portraits
Portraits - probably one of the hardest things to do well in painting and drawing. I have been working at this for years and at times I feel I am succeeding in communicating something of the interior life of the person depicted.
Several years ago, I started using mylar. Its a wonderful, translucent plastic paper that is wonderful to work with.
I'm working on a series of portraits on mylar. It will be slow going but after doing Congo Boy for my Ephemeral Congo project, I am continuing.

Waiting, walking and thinking
In 2018, I was at a bus stop within a subway station and saw this man with a gesture I found intriguing. Is he happy, sad? What is he thinking about? I like the open-ended nature of his expression and way he is standing/walking.
This is one of the largest paintings I have undertaken - five feet by 21 inches, so it took some time to feel comfortable working at that scale and getting everything to come together.
